On the commemorative occasion of Nelson Mandela on 18 July 2023, the Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP) team spent the day at Bophelong Community Centre in Mamelodi.

The team spent well over 67 minutes engaging in various activities, spreading joy among the young ones, and connecting with the dedicated staff at the orphanage.

The day began with a tour of the orphanage, which gave the team a better insight of the orphanage. With a newfound understanding, they went about their planned activities to brighten the day of the children at Bophelong Community Centre.

One of the highlights of the day was an inspiring talk by Ms Zodwa Mookeng. With enthusiasm, Zodwa encouraged the young ones to place their education at the forefront of their aspirations. She started by asking about their dream professions, inspiring them with hope and confidence.

“You must go to school, you must study, and you must work very hard. By doing so, you will be able to become a doctor, businessperson, pilot, and so much more. Education is the key to unlocking your potential, enabling you to learn, read, write, and communicate effectively with those around you,” Zodwa passionately conveyed to the captivated audience.

There was also time for some exciting physical activity where Ms Paulinah Ntuli, led a Tae Bo session, encouraging the children to break a sweat and have some fun.

As the day came to a close, the children and staff at Bophelong Community Centre expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the visit form Enterprises UP. As the team bid farewell, they left behind a legacy of compassion and hope, symbolising the true spirit of Nelson Mandela Day – a day of service, unity, and empowerment for all.
