Leadership development has become one of the leading focuses of businesses worldwide. Managers and entrepreneurs in the agricultural industry face unique business challenges and the need for effective leadership and management in the sector were identified. Responding to this need, the Agricultural Leadership Development Programme was created to not only develop managerial, analytical and creative decision-making competencies but also to hone team-building, negotiation and communication skills at a strategic management level.
Member representatives of the National Emergent Red Meat Producers’ Organisation (NERPO) are currently attending training on the programme in Pretoria. The syllabus is unique in that all teaching content can be applied, with success, internationally. Among the key teachings of the programme is the creation of professional leaders who think like agri-preneurs, and can provide resourceful solutions to the distinctive challenges of South African agriculture.
Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP) has made several significant contributions to the agricultural industry’s body of knowledge. This comprises the development of learning programmes including Starting My Agri-Business and Secondary Agriculture and Value-Chain Financing which are designed to equip new and young farmers with the necessary tools and skills for developing their operations into profitable businesses.
Our Research Solutions also carry out studies around food safety and agro-processing strategy and development. Enterprises UP is also a member of the Agri-SA Corporate Chamber and contributes through the facilitation of research, consulting and training.
